If we listen with the “ears of the heart” when meeting someone new, then yes, all good things are possible. If we listen to our hearts, then there is a knowingness that the special someone has been found. It’s a cause for a celebration. The heart always knows which way to go. Trisha and I met through Match.com. When I met my partner on our first date, I knew there was a deep connection between us. And, she felt the same way. It took some time for that experience to sink in. But, early on our hearts knew that this was to be a real connection. Our first date was at a bookstore half way between the two of our homes. We met at a Barnes & Noble for coffee at about 7 p.m. on a Wednesday evening after having visited on the phone and traded e-mails for more than a month. She had just arrived at Barnes & Noble, bought herself one of those sweet, girly drinks with lots of sugar and cream on top, and sat down. I came along a few minutes later, sat down across from her and started talking to her. The first date only lasted about 10 minutes because she received a phone call from a family member urgently asking her to come home because her mother was seriously ill. The heart was correct. How do we both know there was some connection without having experienced time together? The heart only knows. We often sense deeper truths when listening to a great person speak or while reading a book, or listening to beautiful music. These truths can always be part of the words but they can be felt were sentenced. The same kind of experience happens in dating iwth Match.com. But, it cannot happen if we are not at the party. Many times we don’t listen to our heart that’s when we make poor choices. It might make for better dating if we listen to the heart first, and then the head. If we combine how we feel about the person and the situation and what we logically think we should do then success if more likely. The blend of these two parts of ourselves is important, but the heart usually leads the way to the best decisions when dating or in any other major life decision.

Trisha and I met through Match.com in 2006. If anyone asks me if match.com works I would say, yes IF you follow your heart. If you use Match.com just like shopping for groceries, then you might fall into a few potholes now and then. But, if you use listen to your intuition and heart as well, then you will likely be guided to find real love, real happiness.

Why is the heart so important in dating?

The heart is not just an organ. When we use the word ‘heart” in this way we refer to our deepest sense of inner guidance which is part of our intuition and feeling nature. But the heart also has incredible intelligence as well. When dating, your heart is the most reliable source of information for who to spend time with, and who to let go of.

Of course, there are hunches or feelings that we have about things, such as, when you’re driving and you feel like the stop light is going to change. Or, when you feel like you should turn left and center right winger lost while driving a car to a new friend’s house. Hunches or feelings are not really intuition, they’re more related to instinct, which is part of our left over from our animal ancestry.

Heart really means a higher form of intelligence which guides you through life, keeping you safe, and acting as a soulful compass. The heart gives us our moral compass, as well as our spiritual guidance and personal compass. The heart is connected to conscience, which is our inner sense of what is right and good between ourselves and our fellow man. The heart always knows what is right when choosing to partner. I find it interesting that many times when we begin dating there is a feeling of knowing when you meet someone that they’re the right one for you. How does that work?

The heart is part of our intuitional apparatus. Intuition is sometimes called “straight knowledge” because this higher sense knows things before they happen. It’s knowledge without sequential logic or a series of experiences that add up to an understanding of something we’ve gone through. Intuition is not linear like logic or life experience.
